The dazzling teal blue water of the Pacific Ocean awaits us at Black’s Beach in La Jolla, California. Explore this legendary surf beach, and must-see destination for any visitor to San Diego. This beach couldn’t be more beautiful, but it comes with a catch, we’re going to need to make our way down approximately 500 steps from the top of the cliff, down to the sandy beach on the bottom.
It’s no wonder La Jolla has been home to and inspired so many artists throughout it’s history. The colors of the land, air and sea are spectacularly vivid and always changing throughout each day. One of the attractions to artists, photographers, and video creators is the changing landscape caused by the collapses, seasons, and time of day.
There are no facilities of any kind down on the beach, so it’s critical to plan accordingly, make sure you have everything you are going to need for the entire time down there. In particular make sure you bring plenty of water and sunscreen. I recommend also bringing a sun-hat and umbrella because the sun is incredibly strong once it comes out and especially in the late afternoon when it reflects off the Pacific Ocean.
The water feels so amazing, just cool enough to be refreshing from the sun, but warm enough to happily spend all day swimming, and the salt water feels so incredibly soothing on my sensitive skin.
An underwater canyon just beyond the beach creates an incredible surf break, making this one of the top surf beaches in California, all the more impressive because surfers haul their boards all the way down and up the cliff.
It’s been an incredible day on the coast here in Torrey Pines and La Jolla, and I’m so glad that we were able to explore my favorite beach together.
